why is better having your own domain name for your blog rather than being hosted for free by say wordpress or blogger.com, im actually trying to setup a blog site to earn some money through adsense and affliates, and would it really matter getting my own domain name?

I have this dating site for 1.5 months (in the beginning I had less than 100 users) since I am on Adwords too ($100/day) now I have about 2700 users but the return from adsense on my pages started from 3, 4 dollars/day to now 40/ 50 dollars a day which is much less than what I am paying for the adwords, but I am hoping for the returning users after I have more of them.
On October my average Page CTR was 1.14% and for November so far it is 2.17%
Is this whole thing normal or I can have more money to be returned from site than what it is doing right now?
Any tips or ideas? Because soon I will run out of money
Right now I am designing forums to help bring more people from search engines…
What do you think?
Any help would be appreciated!

I hear you can customize the features more than Adsense will let you, and you can find out exactly what ads are paying you so you can block the low paying ads. Also it says that they will pay you if you make 5 dollars, which is nice because currently I have to make 100 for Google to pay me.http://money.icanspeel.com/

I’m working on a new web site that I want to make money out of. Which would be more profitable, Google AdSnese or affiliate programs? Can I use both on the same pages or site?
Also, which affiliate programs work best for book-related web sites? Is Amaozn profitable as an affiliate program? Do I get commissions on every purchase or just those items listed on my site?
Thanks!
