In recent times, I have been closely studying keywords that have
famous city names at the end of them and what I have discovered
is nothing short of amazing. My research started off with
pay-per-click ads. With Google Adsense the same keyword with
only a city inserted at the end can attract substantially higher
paying adsense ads to your site. That really surprised me and I
went further and researched the kind of traffic the same
keywords get for different well know American cities. Again I
was in for a shock. Some cities have very high traffic for a
certain keyword when you compare them to others for the same
keyword.

What all this means is that you can target certain high traffic
niches by simply adding the names of cities to the end of your
keywords. On your site you can go further and do a little
research about a certain keyword subject in the city or cities
that you are targeting and have a page for that city. The effect
is that your site will end up being ranked very high in certain
cities. This should automatically drive more traffic to your
site. In fact you will be able to reach traffic that you would
not have otherwise been able to reach.

The really amazing and attractive thing about this strategy is
the fact that you only need to make very minor adjustments in
your existing content, maybe even only create city pages with
exactly the same content adjusted. What’s more, with some
subjects you only need to plant the name of the city in the
article a few times and you will have started targeting popular
searches that include the names of popular cities.

It really is amazing that such a simple thing as inserting the
name of famous American cities can make such a huge difference
in the traffic and earnings of a website or blog.

I want to talk about how to, and how not to implement Google ad sense on content sites. One thing is very important to understand; there doesn’t exist an ad sense site that is perfect. Even the very best AdSense sites are constantly reviewed and changed. Stats are checked looking for improvement and also Google is changing their algorithms and introducing new policies all the time.

When you use AdSense it is very important to use different strategies with it. When you visit a site with AdSense take a look at it carefully and look for something that you can learn from it. How are ads placed, is the content correct and matching the ads, is he using high-paying keywords, is the page well optimized and you can even Google the page by keywords and see how well that page is ranking.

When placing your ads, think about color. If you have a blue header or you have a blue banner at the top of your page, put your ads immediately below the banner and make them the same color as your banner so that perfectly blend in. Don’t overdo your absence, it’s not so important to have 10 units on your site then to have two or three which are well placed and strategically work the best. Case studies have shown that a good place for your ads are at the top underneath the banner but don’t make them stand out too much. Better to have them look like they are not ads, because people don’t want to click on ads they want to find what they’re looking for, and if it’s an advertisement, people are running away from obvious advertisements because they are so used to them in television and on the Internet everywhere. So don’t make your ads stand out so that they scream “I’m an ad”, because people won’t click on them. You’re much better off merging your ads into your page design so that they look like important links among your content.

The benefits of placing the ad on top of the page beneath the banner are obvious. If you have a blog and people come to see your new content, they will read the headline and the newest headline is on the top of the page, which means they can’t miss your ads, and if your ad blends well into the page, it is probably going to get a high click through rate. It’s also very important to make the background color of your ad units the same as your pages background color, remember they have to blend in, not stand out, and it is very important.

If you run a blog that changes topic frequently your ads are most probably not going to be well targeted. If you on the other hand run a website with consistent content, your ads are going to be spot on. Of course it is very important that your ads are content related because if they are not, and people are not going to click on them. Your visitors searched for something over the internet and found your page, and if you’re your ads content matches your pages content they’re’ likely to click on your ads.

Many web-based companies have done research how people look at webpage’s. This research has shown where visitors eyes focus on web pages. They have come to a conclusion that it’s not beneficial to put your ads on the left side of your page, because people are used to see a menu on the left side, and only look back there if they want to navigate inside your page.

It is also a good idea to have your content and your AdSense ads alternating, this works well with good and interesting content like a story, that people wants to follow, then suddenly there is an ad that blends perfectly into the rest of the page, and then the story continues, and then there is another ad. Again it’s important not to overdo it. This is a very good way to get good click through rates. A very nice idea is also to incorporate the ad units in the text in a way that the text wraps around the ads. This strategy is commonly seen on many web pages and works also very well. This way also the ads are going to be on natural places and among the content, so that your readers don’t have to search or reach for ads.

I hope these few suggestions help you and keep testing and finding what works best for your site.

A campaing Adsense only is profitable if it´s done on pages that have rich content and it´s interestingsting for the surfer. A siple copy-paste of another webpage don´t work.
The technology of the search engines detects when the content is overexposed on internet or if is duplicated and this will get our pages penalized on the bottom of the index of the search engine or banned. This penalization affects our way of get traffic to our website and without traffic our page is useless.
If our content is original this will make the people gain nterest on it, and if we choose the correct keywords, our ads of Adsense will be more atractive to the readers of our site. In fact, this is a critical factor, cause to get the user make clicks on the ads is necessary those ads grab his attention, and the best way to make this happen is showing ads related to what the user is reading or looking. If our content is related to cars, is absurd showing ads of lencery. Nobody will click on that.
It´s necessary choose the right disposition of the ads also. Adsense offers several formats to help us to fit the ads in the page. Would be good not to emphasize them, but not make them anonymous either. Google lets us choose the colors of the ads, for that reason would be good idea choose the same of our website. This is the best way to integrate perfectly our ads and it´s presentation will be nice to see.
To find the inspiration to show good content in our web is no problem: there are several article directories and ezines that contains issues like this of almost every topic that you imagine. No matter if the keywords that you want to appears in your content are hard to fit, always will be any article about the topic that we have choosen. In addition those articles are easily published in blog format. Due to the popularity of the blogs these days it´s a good idea to make several of those related to different niches and fill them with the articles that we can find in the article directories only if the authors give us his consent to make that.
To know what are the keywords more profitables to choose to our content, we can visit http://overture.com. In the resource page of this web they offers a very valuable service for free: the bid tool. With this tool we can know what are the keyword more valued for the advertisers. There are words with bids up to 30$, and if we can create content about that keywords, less clicks are needed to make profit. In adition, despite we have low amount of traffic don´t matter us because if our ads are the best valued for the advertisers, are the most demanded for the public as well.
The summary: it´s necessary we give the needed importance to our content. There are on Internet a famous words: “The content is the king”. And that is true. If we want to win with Adsense is vital to find a good source of knowledge and ideas and no copy the content of other webs. Also we viewed how to make our ads not intrusive and how to make an Adsense campaign related to the interest of the surfer because this will make people do click on our ads and we´ll earn good money with low traffic even.

The purpose of this article to is to help you increase your revenue from CTR using Google AdSense. Following the steps outlines will help you optimize your websites to give you the best possible moneymaking strategies.
Step 1 – Apply and Comply Having a website can generate revenue for you twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. Google AdSense is a free program that has an advertising revenue especially designed to help websites like yours to increase their revenue simply by displaying AdWords ads.
Each page on your website must be content rich on various topics. These pages should all be centered around a theme which Google will use to target relevant ads to your website. Once you have applied Google will set up an account for you and provide you with the code you need for displaying ads. Insert the code into the pages on your websites and you can start displaying ads immediately. Google search and page-ranking technology will search for ads that are relevant to your content pages. This technology matches the primary language of your pages and ads are targeted to your specific geographic location. This means that ads that serve users from Canada, for example, will not be the same ads that appear on your website for users in Australia. This ‘geotargeting’ by Google akes the ads relevant to all the visitors to your website and it also means that you may not see all of the ads that are targeted to your website. You do not have to be technologically literate to display AdSense ads on your web pages. Google does it all for you. All you have to do is insert the code and maintain the website. At first, you may see public service ads appearing and you do not get paid for these.
Step 2 – Create More Content Pages For Your Website Content pages are the pages in your web site that Google will use to target ads to your website. These pages should be content-rich. In other words, you should have lots of content that the user will be interested in. Each page of your website should be centered around one keyword that is related to the whole theme of your website. A keyword is the focal point of the article. When you decide on a theme, brainstorm list of suitable keywords for which you can write articles. For example, keywords for a website dealing with lawn care could include the following keywords: Seeding your lawn Hedges Mowing the lawn Preventing insect infestation Flowers Flowering shrubs
Then you proceed to write articles for each keyword which can be anywhere from 150 to 500 words. Each keyword article will have its own page where you can display ads. The more content pages you have, the more ads you can display and this, of course, leads to more revenue for you. Keyword articles can be of several kinds – keyword rich and informative. Keyword rich articles contain the keyword in virtually every sentence. The rate is typically 4 – 8 % of the total word count. Informative keyword articles have a more conversational style and are easier to read. If the content pages are clearly focused, Google will be able to serve highly relevant ads to your pages. This means your visitors will be interested in the ads, resulting in more click-thrus and more money for you.
Step 3 – Use higher paying keywords whenever possible You will earn more if the average AdWord that Google displays pays more per click. You should not create pages on unrelated keywords just because they pay more. Some of the high paying keywords that users query on search engines are: Vacations Education Investing Money Medicine However, don’t create a page on vacations on a lawn care page, just because the ads pay more. It takes away from the legitimacy of your website. If you are an AdWords advertiser, you can log into your account and Experiment. As you will be sharing the revenue with Google, you will receive a percentage of the amount each advertiser pays per click. For example you may find that if you type in “ladders”, the maximum price per click is 15 cents. A percentage of this will not get generate a very high revenue. However, if you type in “valium”, you may find that the price per click is $5.00. The bottom line is the keywords you use can increase the amount of money you earn.
Step 4 – Create new pages with higher paying keywords and at the same time maintain relevance to the theme of your website. Selecting keywords related to the same topic, can make a difference in how much money you earn by users clicking on relevant ads on your pages. Check the theme of your website for higher paying keywords and create articles related to these words. The terminology you use can determine how effective your website will be in attracting visitors. For example if you are selling teeth bleaching products a query for toothpaste may or may not select your website in the search. If you are selling products on your website, ensure that you have keyword articles related to the competition as well as your own products. This does not mean that you will advertise for the competition. The article can be a comparison of your product with another demonstrating why the user should purchase your product.
Step 5 – Create a brand new website with higher paying keywords You can create a brand new website to take advantage of Google’s AdSense program. Therefore, you will need to select a topic with high paying keywords. Then provide great information about that topic. Now that you have the content pages and keywords you want, you need to place the ads where they can be seen, and clicked, by the visitors to your website. Most Internet users are so bombarded byads that they automatically tune out the ads that appear on a website. Your goal is to make your ads more appealing to the users and less like ads. Any time that users click on an ad, they have an actual interest in what that ad is selling. To maximize the number of click-thru ads on your site receive, you have to make them less like traditional advertising.
Step 6 – Create different kinds of web pages Different pages on your website serve different purposes. If the object of your website is to sell a particular product or service, create web pages specifically for that purpose. Then have other pages on your website that are geared towards high search engine traffic. Once you realize which pages you are creating for AdSense, select appropriate keywords. Try to select keywords that are the highest paying keywords on the topic.
Step 7 – Create high quality information pages Give the visitors to your website the answers they need. The keyword articles should give information about the topic and not ramble on with a disjointed list of sentences. When writing keyword articles, do not copy and paste from other websites. This is illegal. It’s much better to write something new and unique. The writing in the articles should be of a conversational tone using language that the ordinary person will understand. For example, it would be of no point to write this ebook in completely technical language that only a computer programmer would understand. You would not be able to understand it and therefore not apply the techniques. The same is true of keyword articles. If the user does not like the first few sentences, he/she will not continue reading and will move on. Do not create a page about a topic and save it with another to try to generate high paying ads to your page. If your page is relevant to the topic, visitors will click-thru to other pages and ads.
Step 8 – Use the Best Ad Format For Your Web Page Research has shown the best format for ads to maximize click-thrus are 336 x 280 rectangles. The next best size is 300 x 250. Banner are the worst ads to show on a site and the tall thin ads don’t fit well on a page because they are usually on the left or the right. The best placement of ads on a page is in the center – right in the users line of vision. You have to put the ads in their face to maximize the effect of click-thrus by users. The best size ad to use is the 336 x 280 rectangle or if space ia at a premium use the 300 x 250 rectangle.
Step 9 – Make Sure That the Ad Block is Positioned Properly Where you have the ad located on your web page affects how often users will click on it. Ads should be as close to the top and the middle as possible. Internet users look to the center of the page to find information. If your ad is placed down the sides, it will often be overlooked. People who use your web page because of a keyword search are generally looking for specific information. Having the ad placed front and center will get their attention, whereas ads on the side will not. Place the large rectangle ads just above the content, not in the right or left hand columns.
Step 10 – Choose the Best Colors for Your Ads Google AdSense offers advice for publishers as to the color of the ads on their web pages. They allow you to customize your ad colors. The recommendation from Google for using custom palettes is to:
• Have the background of the ads the same color or a color similar to the background color of the page.
• Have the border of the ad a color that is predominant on the page.
• Have the title of the ad a color that is similar to the color of the text on the page.
• Have the URL of the ad a color similar to other links on the page. Statistics show that navy blue color works best as a link. The color of the URL should not stand out on the page. The top ranking color for URL’s is dark gray. It does not mask the advertiser URL even though light grays do the same thing. Avoid unconventional colors for URLs. Blue is actually considered a non-stimulating color, and some publishers say it can actually have a negative effect on purchasing or deciding to click-thru. Blue is considered by many to be sleep inducing, and is the worst choice if you are interested in a call to action. Sometimes if the effect you want is calming, blue can be integrated effectively. When starting out with placing ads on your web pages, the best advice is to experiment until you find a combination that works for you. Research and statistics have shown the default layout provided by Google AdSense is not the best option.
Step 11 – Don’t try to cheat your way to a higher revenue Many publishers have tried to increase their revenue from Google AdSense by clicking on ads on their own website or using software which automatically repeats clicks. Such attempts to gain more money from the ads displayed on your web pages is fraudulent and will result in the automatic cancellation of your account. Google has engineers who can detect this type of fraud. By trying to spam your way to extra money won’t work out. You will get kicked out of the program and you won’t make any money at all. Prohibited methods of clicking include:
• Repeated manual clicks
• Use of robots
• Automated clicking tools
• Deceptive software
• Clicking on your own ads Legitimate clicks are those that are generated as the result of a user to your site clicking on one or more ads on various pages.

At the point when you know everything you need to know about AdSense, but you still have trouble earning reasonable revenue with it, you need to understand how people think, what they look for and what they want to get from your page. Sometimes you don’t need to change much to create an effective AdSense unit.

If people see immediately that there is an advertisement on your page, it is not likely that they are going to click on it. Everybody hates spam and we sort of see a red flag when we find advertisements on pages when we are looking for information on the Internet. This is why you have to make sure that your AdSense units don’t stand out as advertisements, but blend in to the rest of the page graphically and strategically. When people read information, there is a point when they need to take a natural break because it is limited how much information we can digest in one take.

Try to find these points in your text, blend your ads so that you use the same font and color. Make sure they don’t stand out from the rest of your graphical look, and if you can do this correctly you have a much higher chance of people clicking on your ads. Of course we are talking about ad sends for content in this case.

Maybe I don’t have to remind you, but I do it anyway, always match the background color of the unit with the background color of your site. Also understand that you can’t force users to find and click your ads. They won’t do it!

After you have placed your units graphically and strategically on your site, make sure that you format your text in the same way as in the ads, to make further sure that they won’t stand out. Many magazines use sidebars which contain more and extra information on the subject, and they are easy to understand with a glance. You want your ads to look something like that.

Everybody says that it’s important to put your ads in the beginning or top up your page. This is very true; the first thing people do when they come to a page full of information is to look at the top of the page or the article and decide if the information is what they are looking for. So if you want your readers to see your ads, put few units on top of your page making sure you blend them as discussed before, so that they don’t shout out “I’m an advertisement click on me”! If you put AdSense units in the middle of your article, they will probably work against you, because people have to read around them. Instead if you’re ads are on the top of the page and for example underneath the header, everybody will see them and it won’t be a distraction at this point.

And now into some more clever tactics;

Make a narrow but long AdSense unit that looks like a news column. Then make a real news column on your page that looks exactly like the ad sends unit, but is actually information and inbound links. Put one unit on the left side, preferably the ad sends unit and the other litter lower on the right side of your page. This is a great trick I’m sure will help you and it’s a lot of fun.

If you use Google image ads, they usually look too much like ads to be effective. But you could use the same kind of tactics as explained before to get some value out of them. Put a picture of something interesting on your page, and then put an image ad on another strategically good place, but don’t use Google’s image ads only.

This is good, because images attract attention. When using this tactic, put the normal picture first on your page and the advertisement further down and make your picture important to the page content and put a clickable link underneath it.

In order to find the right tools to research high paying AdSense keywords, it is important to know what information you want o know about keywords. It would be just great if there were a tool that told everyone exactly what Google pays for each keyword, but that doesn’t exist and anyone who creates such a tool is certain to be barred from Google forever because it is a clear violation of the terms and conditions of having an AdSense account to reveal any income information to anyone else.
You can use Adwords keyword tool to select keywords and you’ll get some information. But there are many, many great tools out there that will help you select the right keywords for your AdSense campaign focus. Look for only those tools that provide information about the number of searches performed, the number of competing websites and a “guestimate” of profitability.
Keyword elite will do all of that and a lot more. Keyword elite allows you to create keyword lists with the most profitable keywords and thousands of variations. Keyword elite let’s you spy on your competitors adword campaigns so you can do better.
With keyword Elite you can find the highest paying keywords for adsense publishing.
WordTracker is probably the best known and most popular tool for finding keywords that are profitable and that have little competition. However, it does entail a subscription fee so that you want to subscribe for the period that you will actually use the tool and no longer. You can subscribe for a day, a week or a month, or indefinitely. Only those people who use the tool frequently should consider an indefinite subscription due to the high cost.
NicheBot is a free tool that is really handy for this. Unlike WordTracker which costs quite a bit for a subscription, this tool has just about everything you need or want and it is absolutely free to use. It is web-based and perhaps not quite as fast as WordTracker, but it works just great. And it is being upgraded all the time with new features.
KeyWordDiscovery offers a free trial period, after which there is a subscription fee. However, it is a reasonably popular tool for keyword researching.
Overture Keyword Research Tool is another free tool that you can use. It gives you the information you need but the output is based on Overture search engines and you would do much better to get Google search engine results.
To find the right tools for you, try several of the free tools you’ll find with a simple Internet search. You may find one that meets your needs very well. If not, then it is time to begin using some of the subscription services.

By Marige O’Brien, Copyright ©2006

Thanks to adsense, blogs, rss feeds and their listings — not to mention an arsenal of free types of advertising — it’s possible to make a very good income without spending a penny and with minimal effort. The trick is to optimize for it.

PLEASE NOTE: Though adsense may have originated with Google’s system, there are many other adsense-type programs available, all of which are as viable — some even more so — as theirs. The information included here applies to most of them.

While everyone else is busy optimizing for search engines, by optimizing for adsense, a site can feasibly pull enough traffic that simply clicks on the ads to forget about other forms of sales.

However, bear in mind that most adsense TOS agreements prevent any unfair or “fraudulent” clicking, even so much as a note saying, “click here to support this site,” which risks banishment by most adsense companies. This, of course, is to protect those adwords customers who pay to have their ads displayed. It is they who are robbed (not the companies) when an ad is clicked irresponsibly. Furthermore Google, for one, can track clicks effectively enough to detect any artificial or irresponsible clicking will garner any income received this way.

With that in mind, by understanding how adsense-type programs work, one can optimize a page, legally, to create a substantial income. And while guidelines are designed primarily focused on adsense, many of these strategies will increase a sites’ general revenue as well.

TOP SEARCHES
The first step is to design a site around the top searches. There are various tools (keyword selectors and zeitgeist, for example) that help gather this information. Of course, there is also the “niche marketing” school of thought, i.e., to find a smaller group that has less page-per-click competition. In this case, the ideal is to find a large audience-small page ratio. But after more than a year of marketers scouring the web for them, finding one is rare and searching for one can take a LOT of time. Not hours or days, but weeks or months.

HIGHEST PAYING KEYWORDS
Lists of these can be found simply by searching the internet. Of course combining the highest paying adsense keywords with Top Searches may make a very strange mix. Afterall, the top search (at the time of this writing) is Britney Spears while the top-paying words relate to mesothelioma and asbestos cancer. So, unless Britney Spears speaks out on mesothelioma, there’s little chance these could be combined legally*. But, by looking down the lists there are more feasible combinations. The main thing to understand is it’s only a combination of the two (high-paying keywords & top searches) that will bring enough traffic to garner any measurable LEGAL income from adsense.

PLACES, PLEASE
Placing the ads prominently on the site is a no-brainer, though some marketers still tend to hide them toward the bottom of the site. Another TOS factor, too, is a content-to-ad ratio that adsense programs used to insist on, but seem to be slipping. Generally the policy was no more than two banner ads per page though many sites that end up at the top of searches seem to flaunt this rule. But who knows how long they last, too. Traditionally, putting one banner across the top, just below the title, and one “skyscraper” down one side, with content in the middle is the best.

MULTI-PAGE IT
One pase allows for 2 ads, but more ads can be placed on each additional page on the site. For those lacking ideas for additional pages, the simplest page would be a separate contact page, as well as an “about us” or testimonial page, all of which are viable additions. Incidently, it’s ironic that so many marketers create mile-long splash pages rather than a group of pages and never add one adsense ad to them. As if, by doing this, it will garner more sales, when the truth is, they sacrifice as much as gain because these pages are rarely indexed and annoy visitors as many as they attract, simply because of their set up. Understand this: adsense is a way to profit from EXIT traffic, something that WILL occur at one point or another, no matter how wonderful the page.

HIGHLIGHT OR BLEND
Some prefer the adsense to blend into their site, almost hiding it from visitors. But this diminishes its effectiveness. Rather, by highlighting it, visitors will be more aware of it, allowing it to stand out. Of course, we’d all prefer our visitors to stay at OUR site, buy OUR product, etc. But the fact is, many won’t. Isn’t it better to gain something from their departure?

ADSEARCH
This feature is only available from some of the larger adsense programs. If it is available, placing it at the bottom of a page offers the visitor the convenience of doing a search without having to first go to the SE. Of course, many SEs and browsers offer toolbars that diminish the effectiveness of this. But adding it will create another exit point that is to your advantage– and seems like a service, too.

AFRAID OF COMPETITION?
Some adsense programs offer a “block competition” option, one in which specific sites may be barred. However, to believe it’s possible to effectively block ALL your competition is naive. Though it may at first seem outrageious to help advertise for the competition, again, at least one will gain from their advertisement (and, for those who need payback remember: the competition is paying you).

Each of these strategies increase a site’s adsense revenue. By using all of them, the adsense ads will create a steady revenue stream which will increase with the site’s traffic stream.–mo

*Also, this combination uses Google’s rates, which may vary in other adsense programs.
