I want to talk about how to, and how not to implement Google ad sense on content sites.  One thing is very important to understand;  there doesn’t exist an ad sense site that is perfect. Even the very best AdSense sites are constantly reviewed and changed. Stats are checked looking for improvement and also Google is changing their algorithms and introducing new policies all the time.

When you use AdSense it is very important to use different strategies with it.  When you visit a site with AdSense take a look at it carefully and look for something that you can learn from it. How are ads placed, is the content correct and matching the ads, is he using high-paying keywords, is the page well optimized and you can even Google the page by keywords and see how well that page is ranking.

When placing your ads, think about color. If you have a blue header or you have a blue banner at the top of your page, put your ads immediately below the banner and make them the same color as your banner so that perfectly blend in.  Don’t overdo your absence, it’s not so important to have 10 units on your site then to have two or three which are well placed and strategically work the best.  Case studies have shown that a good place for your ads are at the top underneath the banner but don’t make them stand out too much. Better to have them look like they are not ads, because people don’t want to click on ads they want to find what they’re looking for, and if it’s an advertisement, people are running away from obvious advertisements because they are so used to them in television and on the Internet everywhere.  So don’t make your ads stand out so that they scream “I’m an ad”, because people won’t click on them. You’re much better off merging your ads into your page design so that they look like important links among your content.

The benefits of placing the ad on top of the page beneath the banner are obvious.  If you have a blog and people come to see your new content, they will read the headline and the newest headline is on the top of the page, which means they can’t miss your ads, and if your ad blends well into the page, it is probably going to get a high click through rate.  It’s also very important to make the background color of your ad units the same as your pages background color, remember they have to blend in, not stand out, and it is very important.

If you run a blog that changes topic frequently your ads are most probably not going to be well targeted.  If you on the other hand run a website with consistent content, your ads are going to be spot on.  Of course it is very important that your ads are content related because if they are not, and people are not going to click on them. Your visitors searched for something over the internet and found your page, and if you’re your ads content matches your pages content they’re’ likely to click on your ads.

Many web-based companies have done research how people look at webpage’s.  This research has shown where visitors eyes focus on web pages. They have come to a conclusion that it’s not beneficial to put your  ads on the left side of your page, because people are used to see a menu on the left side, and only look back there if they want to navigate inside your page.

It is also a good idea to have your content and your AdSense ads alternating, this works well with good and interesting content like a story, that people wants to follow, then suddenly there is an ad that blends perfectly into the rest of the page, and then the story continues, and then there is another ad.  Again it’s important not to overdo it.  This is a very good way to get good click through rates.  A very nice idea is also to incorporate the ad units in the text in a way that the text wraps around the ads.  This strategy is commonly seen on many web pages and works also very well.  This way also the ads are going to be on natural places and among the content, so that your readers don’t have to search or reach for ads.

It goes without saying that we all need more traffic to our websites. This can be achieved in numerous ways. I’d like to explore once specific traffic source a little deeper.
Although it maybe prudent to mention a few to start with, some will be obvious and some will be not so obvious. Natural search engine rankings, advertising, articles, blogs, newsletters, rss feeds, videos, joint ventures, press releases, social bookmarking, social networking and the most important ingredient that should run through the whole of these is quality.
One of the areas, blogs, has always been a grey area for me personally, until I discovered a few important facts. Perhaps I knew them, but when put into a certain context they meant more.
Allow me to explain further…
We all have been told that within our strategy we must link a blog to our website; in fact as many blogs as we can muster the energy to do. So yes I’m sure we’ve all gone out and made ten blogs. As a consequence of such effort we have seen very little traffic. So as a natural result we’ve returned our attention back to our websites, made them bigger and better and sat back and waited, checking our adsense revenue a few times a day.
Despondency sets in and we can’t see the wood for the trees. So what’s going on?
First we must remember that blogs get regarded has having more value than a ‘normal’ website. We know this to be true as we see them ranked above most websites. Yet our own blogs on typical blogging sites never seem to get anywhere in the rankings. There is an important distinction here to. A blog on a ‘blogging site’ will also rank higher than a blog on a normal – mywebsite.com website
Should you wish to test this theory out, put the same content on your website with a Page Rank of 4 and then put the same content on a blog with a zero page rank. The result sadly is that the blog could well rank above your own website.
That said… It would appear we are working ‘upside down’ on our efforts. If we put 2 hours of work on our blog, rather than our website per day, we may get the blog to a page rank of 5 quicker? In doing that, we achieve backlinks to our own site from a better page ranked site. Plus if we have adsense on the blog we are killing two birds with one stone.
I am only half way through fully testing this theory and it may require a further six months, but all the evidence suggests that this will work. If we have a website that sits nicely in a niche, then to have a blog or two back-linking, will only increase our websites inner page ranks and they will appear higher in the search engines.
As we add content to our website, tweak a little and add it to our blogs. The end result will be a page rank of 4 for our website and a page rank of 5 or 6 for our blog. When this happens, funnel the links back to your own site and it should nudge the page rank up one notch. The blog of course should be ’subject’ relevant to your own site.

More Advanced Adsense Techniques

At the point when you know everything you need to know about AdSense, but you still have trouble earning reasonable revenue with it, you need to understand how people think, what they look for and what they want to get from your page.  Sometimes you don’t need to change much to create an effective AdSense unit.

If people see immediately that there is an advertisement on your page, it is not likely that they are going to click on it.  Everybody hates spam and we sort of see a red flag when we find advertisements on pages when we are looking for information on the Internet.  This is why you have to make sure that your AdSense units don’t stand out as advertisements, but blend in to the rest of the page graphically and strategically.  When people read information, there is a point when they need to take a natural break because it is limited how much information we can digest in one take.

Try to find these points in your text, blend your ads so that you use the same font and color.  Make sure they don’t stand out from the rest of your graphical look, and if you can do this correctly you have a much higher chance of people clicking on your ads.  Of course we are talking about ad sends for content in this case.

Maybe I don’t have to remind you, but I do it anyway, always match the background color of the unit with the background color of your site.  Also understand that you can’t force users to find and click your ads.  They won’t do it!

After you have placed your units graphically and strategically on your site, make sure that you format your text in the same way as in the ads, to make further sure that they won’t stand out.  Many magazines use sidebars which contain more and extra information on the subject, and they are easy to understand with a glance.  You want your ads to look something like that.

Everybody says that it’s important to put your ads in the beginning or top up your page.  This is very true; the first thing people do when they come to a page full of information is to look at the top of the page or the article and decide if the information is what they are looking for.  So if you want your readers to see your ads, put few units on top of your page making sure you blend them as discussed before, so that they don’t shout out “I’m an advertisement click on me”!  If you put AdSense units in the middle of your article, they will probably work against you, because people have to read around them.  Instead if you’re ads are on the top of the page and for example underneath the header, everybody will see them and it won’t be a distraction at this point.

And now into some more clever tactics;

Make a narrow but long AdSense unit that looks like a news column.  Then make a real news column on your page that looks exactly like the ad sends unit, but is actually information and inbound links.  Put one unit on the left side, preferably the ad sends unit and the other litter lower on the right side of your page.  This is a great trick I’m sure will help you and it’s a lot of fun.

If you use Google image ads, they usually look too much like ads to be effective.  But you could use the same kind of tactics as explained before to get some value out of them.  Put a picture of something interesting on your page, and then put an image ad on another strategically good place, but don’t use Google’s image ads only. 

This is good, because images attract attention.  When using this tactic, put the normal picture first on your page and the advertisement further down and make your picture important to the page content and put a clickable link underneath it.

If you’ve watched the progress of Google Adsense over the past few years you will know its potential has decreased and subsequently the revenue decrease too. So why would that be?
Google have tweaked their algorithm, and as such it has reduced the remarkable payouts we may have seen and read about. Rather than try to identify the exact reasons, it is widely accepted that people who abused the system caused Google to adjust their methods to quash such abuse.
We may have seen MFA’s, websites specifically ‘Made for Google Adsense’. As such these sites DID make big money, but offered little or no content. Such attempts to ‘work’ the system would only have a short life span until the BIG G saw such a loophole and consequently shut it down. Although these sites still exist, they have been de-listed from the Google Search Engine. If you didn’t know already, type – site:www.awebsitename.com – into Google Search and it will show the pages that Google have listed in their engine.
Google has tried to steer each and every website owner towards adding quality content. Without quality content your site is only visited for seconds. It is this very aspect that Google uses to determine the quality of sites. If someone is only on your site for seconds it deems the quality as low; if they stay on for more than 30 seconds you’re beginning to get recognition.
So to earn a living from Adsense is much harder today, than it has ever been. If you are solely intent on relying on Google Adsense as your only income from the outset, it maybe a deemed as a mistake, unless you follow some sound business principles and get advice from an expert.
What a lot of individuals are doing is realizing that they have tremendous sites, and Google Adsense isn’t bringing in enough money to generate their weekly income. As a consequence they have looked at earning revenue from other sources. Affiliate income is an option for consideration.
Alternatively, rather than give up on Adsense try generating more traffic. If you get a steady flow of visitors to your site already you may want to consider one option that will serve two purposes. This option is to write a short article, nothing too in-depth that takes weeks, let’s say an article that’s heading starts – 101 Ways To… – such as 101 Ways to Treat Acne. This method is called viral marketing. As visitors pass the file to others, or pass the download link, more people will use the links within the ‘pdf’ to get back to your site.

Yes! You Can Ethically and Legally ‘Lure’ Visitors To Click On Your Adsense Ads!

Tip Number 1.

The lesser the ads you place, the higher the likely hood of them getting clicked. As a rule of thumb, I always never put more then 4 ads on any single page although I would be hard pressed to think of times when there were more then 2. More ads would mean a decrease in the value of the advertisements shown, so publishers should carefully watch their advertisement units, as it dilutes ad inventory and value.

Tip Number 2.

Give them a reason to click. No not by asking them to ‘click here!’ or ‘visit now’ under your ads. This is totally unacceptable and possibly in violation of Adsense’s TOS. What you can do is target and watch the ads displayed like a hawk. Make sure the content you publish are extremely relevant to the specific 3 or 4 keywords you are targeting in that particular content. That way, the ads would be super relevant and you would get more convinced ‘clickers’

Tips Number 3.

Blend in your ads subtly. Not with the purpose of tricking them but to make the ads unobtrusive, making a more pleasant viewing experience for them and higher click-through-rate for you. Integrate your Ads with your website simply by removing the borders around the ads.

Tip Number 4.

Update your content regularly. Most visitors visit your site twice. If on the second time, the content remains the same, he will not visit again. With the advent of Google losing a court case (and a shed load of money) and the continued problem of click fraud the question is now on the tip of everyone’s tongue – “Is Google Adsense still the cash cow that it was?”.

In this article I’ll take a look at ways in which the average webmaster may still develop a successful Adsense business and how to use the up and coming Google witch hunt to your advantage.

There are currently two main problems that are facing Google, both of which are serious and could lead to the demise of both Adsense and Adwords.

The first and most serious problem is that of click fraud. For those of you who do not know click fraud is the act of clicking on your own (or a friends) ads in an attempt to generate artificial earnings.

This is such a problem for Google as it ensures that the value that Adwords purchasers gets is significantly less then they would want, thus ensuring that sooner or later they will just get up and walk away (with what remains of their advertising budget firmly clamped in their hand).

To remedy this problem Google have tried putting several rules in place such as not allowing the webmaster to show Adsense ads in auto surf sites (to name but one restriction).

The second problem that Google faces relates to content, notably the amount of original content which is out there.

The problem in this case is that many people have purchased article scraper software (software that you point at someone elses website and just shout ‘Fetch!’ – it then returns a document collection which is a complete rip off of the site).

This was already a problem before the advent of Adsense sites and with the continual chain of people chasing high value keywords it has become worse; It is now possible to search for a given phrase on Google and return nothing but duplicate content for the first few pages of search engine results.

In order to address this problem Google has been modifying it’s algorithm to effectively punish people with duplicate content, the extent to which an individual site is ‘penalized’ is currently a matter for debate.

So, given Google is about to launch a witch hunt looking for sites with nothing but duplicate content and for people performing click fraud what can you do?

After all there are so many people out there using site generation tools that Google can trace and/or document obfustication technology (you’ve seen the ads – “We can make your one original article into 300 and Google will never know!” – yep, and anyone who visits your site will just find drivel with spelling errors or contextual mistakes).

Step 1.

If you must use site generation software make sure you find one that leaves no trace behind itself, ask yourself – ‘If I was looking at the source code from the generated page how would I know that it’s machine generated?’

Step 2.

Don’t use site scraping tools, they’re immoral and a waste of your time

Step 3.

Do include RSS feeds into your pages, they add fresh content with no effort on your part (at least one of the site generation tools now supports this kind of functionality)

Step 4.

Don’t click on your own adverts, Google will can you in the blink of an eye

Step 5.

Do get incoming links from established sites (in the same area as your niche content)

Summary.

If you are at all serious about creating an Adsense income you need more than one site and so it is inevitable that you will use site generation tools (because there aren’t enough hours in the day for you to create the amount of pages by hand), by all means use these tools but use them ethically.

When using site generation tools ensure that they allow you to add multiple blocks of Adsense /Clickbank /Ebay code to each page (it saves you a lot of time) and that it performs search engine optimization for you (both on page and off page).

You should also take the time to write some of your own original content – like this or perhaps pay a ghost writer to create a batch of articles for you (don’t forget to ad your bio box at the bottom of everything you write).

To answer the initial question, yes, it is still possible to make LOTS of money from Google – you just need to be careful.
