My Friend Has A Site With Google Adsense In It…is She Allowed To Promote The Site Name Through The Internet?

Posted by Adsense Enquirer on October 29th, 2009 at 05:25am

My friend is constructing a fansite called www.EllenAdarna.tk and has Google Adsense in it. Though it is prohibited to click on your own ads or lead people to click on them, can she promote the actual site name through it’s placement on forums, social networks or as one of the words in a description in youtube? She is not telling users to directly click on the ads anyway, and she does need all the help she can get she pays for the site’s expenses through her own money. Please help.

    MOST DEFINITELY
Google wants you to earn more, and to earn more having bigger traffic helps. If you earn more, Google also earns more.
What they are concerned with is if your friend will be getting LOW QUALITY traffic — the type of traffic you get from services that claim to give you 100,000 traffic for $29.99. Google can read where your traffic is coming from, and if they see that she is getting these low quality traffic, then they can opt to terminate her account
Yahoo Publisher Network, for example, has terminated several publishers because their sites get a huge percentage of traffic from MySpace, which it considers to be low quality traffic
As long as she is getting QUALITY TARGETED TRAFFIC — users who are actually interested in what her site offers, then there is no problem with Google Adsense
Just tell her to read the Program Policies again to make sure that everything she does is above board

Sorry, so let me get this right. You’re just wondering if your friend can go ahead and link her site http://www.EllenAdarna.tk from other sites to hers?
YES 100%! Her success with adsense will be based on 2 things.
    1) Placement of ads – I suggest moving one of the ads and place DIRECTLY under the navigational links and make them LOOK like they are navigational links, ie, same colour text and background as used by nav.
    2) The ads seem to be…well.. random. A celeb, hmmm… I suggest getting TARGETED ads for this industry. Any idea of the kind of person whom visits site? Once this is known, then SELECT the type of ads that you think will appeal to the audience.
    3) And back to your question – Yes, it is 100% important to get links from other sites to yours. This will also help with your search engine rankings… although this is a whole new can of worms and I do SEO as a job, so I’m not gonna go in to this now or I’ll be here till ‘09 explaining it. 1 tip though – the links that are on other sites pointing to your friends site – make them keyword rich. What I mean by this is make sure they are keyword phrases that people are actually searching for – this in turn will help that site rank better for that term in the search engine result pages. I suggest you check out such sites as http://www.seomoz.org for more info on what SEO is as this is the ONE true way of pulling in and maximising the amount of visitors.
    Regards
    John
